Tutoring Program

Tutoring Program

In 2020, when the pandemic started, a need arose. In Lambare, a city just outside of the capital Asuncion, many students were falling behind in school or didn’t have the resouces to learn online at home. Our director, Angelica Dickson, had the idea to start a tutoring program in different places throughout Lambare. She gathered together a group of Paraguayns, with a passion for teaching and children, and they began to help students stay on track in school/ It was difficult at first because the teachers realized how little of an education many of the children had. Many couldn’t read or write or do basic math. But..both the teachers and students perservered! Now, 6 years later, the tutoring program is happening in 5 different locations and the children are confidently reading, writing, doing math, getting better at Spanish and Guarani, and even learning a little English!

More importantly, every class we start off with a story from the Bible and prayer. We care about each and every relationship with each of our students. We take the time to build trust in the hopes that they’ll believe it when we say, «Jesus loves you.» As more trust is built, the children open up more and share about their hopes and struggles going on. In the midst of their struggles or pain or poor living conditions, they’re able to learn about the hope that Jesus gives them. Little by little, students are accepting Christ while others are still processing. We are hopeful and excited to see our students finish high school, go onto college, or choose a trade, and be able to change their lives and their families lives while also living for Jesus.
